The First
New Moon in 2002 - Changing Values in Capricorn The New Moon on January 13 falls at 23 degrees Capricorn, along with the Sun and Venus. It’s Sabian Symbol, “A soldier receiving two awards for bravery,” reminds us of the give and take between society and the individual, of recognition for fulfillment of responsibility. We will see this year bring about a change in values to reflect this…not because folks really want to change, but because life circumstance has forced us to check in with what “really matters.” (The Sabian Symbols, by the way, are channeled bits of insight for every degree in the Zodiac. Meditative tools for astro-geeks.) Capricorn slowly and ambitiously defines its own world. As a determined earth sign, it rules structure in the body and in society. Capricorn especially works with the knees, where we bend to a higher will. Generally, Capricorn is not given much respect in the astrological world. It seems cold, boring, distant and snobby. This is because most Capricornian types have a hidden internal life. They know how to keep their own counsel and observe deeply. Most of us find this combination disconcerting. Venus and the Sun join the moon in this sign, inviting us to examine how we fulfill our responsibilities, how we build our lives’ structure. Do we pursue our ambitions because of outside expectation, because of assumptions regarding outcome? Do we act for our joy rather than our judge? Does what we attract to ourselves actually serve us? Chiron also sits in Capricorn, at three degrees. Its Sabian symbol is “A Human Soul, in its eagerness for new experiences, seeks embodiment.” Thus, we yearn to feel deeply our existence via experience…any type of experience. Chiron, the wounded healer, instructs us to examine ways to transform our life experience to live from love and serve not only ourselves, but others as well. Look at the planetoid Chiron as a cosmic reformed gangsta. It acts much the same in one’s chart-with ruthless salt of the earth compassion. If Chiron came from a Brooklyn reform school, to speak to you on the New Moon, he would say,” I’m sayin, you in da body and so’s everyone else. Don’t act stupid. Why you be up in my grill all da time talking bout, ‘this sucks and that sucks.’ Quit wastin’ ya time clockin everybody else and stop doin what sucks. Or correct ya attitude so it don’t suck neither.” In other words, during this moon cycle, we can play with a classic example of don Miguel's Fourth Agreement, “Always Do Your Best.” Authentically doing one’s best comes, not because otherwise the world will know we are bad or good, not because it will result in the best reward, but out of appreciation of our human being-ness. Doing one’s best results in a sense of pleasure, the way the first morning’s stretch gives pleasure. Perhaps it wont be the tenth level of ecstasy, but it will hum satisfaction deep in your core. This New Moon alignment invites us to seek out satisfying, responsible experiences. What is happening in your life that makes you feel good to your bones? If you don’t have a long answer, now is the time to invent one…and do your best to create it. If the only thing you are doing your best at is complaining or finding reasons why not to feel good, you are wounding yourself and the people around you. Take responsibility for yourself and how you touch others. Our friend Chiron makes you an offer you can’t refuse: change or make yourself sick. Bend to a higher good and higher purpose, not by becoming a martyr, but by seeking things that truly make you feel good about your being. Generally this will not be anything causing torment to others. Of course, to most, this seems obvious. Nonetheless, the dream of the planet actually encourages “doing unto others before they do it to you,” as a way of enjoying oneself and “getting ahead.” The stars are clear on this issue. Be nice. Venus in conjunction with the Sun and Moon invites love to work with ego and the emotional body. The heart becomes the guide for ambition, not the brain and not the bank account. The year 2002 is numerologically a 4 year, a time of consolidation. Moving slowly will be in style. (Especially mid January when Mercury goes retrograde in Aquarius). Take advantage of this to meditate daily on the shape and form you have given your life. Even if you feel inhibited by structure or restriction, find what you can do within the structure to bring yourself and others more joy. It may simply be a change in attitude. Do your best within your situation and you will feel better, simply because you are living to your highest potential within each moment. Nothing prevents living to your highest potential within the moment, except yourself Bright Blessings ~Isis Ward http://www.ecstaticarts.com This Moon's Meditation, Tarot, Firewalking, Shamanism, previous page, next page Gathering
